Winter Flats Fishing Report For The Lower Florida Keys.

Merry Xmas!!!

Fished father/daughter team Allen & Alyson.
 Alyson got her first tarpon.

The weather earilier this month was more like April then Dec.  Water temperatures in the mid 70s to low 80's   This makes for some great conditions to hunt tarpon, bonefish and permit..

Permit release

Rob jumps another tarpon!

Barracuda

Two days ago we were hit with a cold front..  Temperatures dropped into the 60s for a day or so..  When this happens the tarpon, bonefish and permit are hard to find..  However we still have sharks, barracuda, redfish, seatrout and jacks..

Jacks love flies

Look closly at every shark and ray you see on the flats..  Jacks will follow larger sharks and rays.  Throw a fly at  them and strip fast.. A live shrimp or jig is effective too.  These guys move like tasmaniun devels..

Been lots of redfish on the flats...

The lower keys is not known for it's redfishing, but we have been finding more and more redfish then ever before..  Nice to have another species to target on cooler days..

Lets go fishing!

Good news is the weather is improving and will be back in the 80s for Xmas!

Feel free to call or write if I can help with your vacation planning.
